Running motivation....dying...

Alright, so I admit it, I haven't run in a WEEK! AHH! So I was back in a groove after returning from the beach a few weeks back but then I stopped for a few days last weekend when I had the girls' weekend. Ever since then it has been VERY hard to get back into it.

HOWEVER...Since I began this whole ordeal of trying to loose some weight for the wedding etc...this morning I weighed in at the lowest in months! So, even though I am not running right now like I should be, it doesn't mean I have totally given up on being healthy. To date, (since February) I have lost 24 pounds, which is pretty awesome! But I do need to get better about the excercising part.

Tonight I am leaving for my Mom's house because tomorrow morning....bright and early we are headed out to Deep Creek Lake for the Abell/Fields family reunion! It's going to be a week of great fun (hopefully the weather cooperates!) But anyways, I am going to be on vacation yet again (lucky me!!) and I will be without the ability to weigh myself everyday (which I know to some people is a scary thought, but to me weighing daily really helps me keep track) but I will allow myself a little bit of flexility just gotta keep it reasonable.

It will probably be another week until I check in again, but hpoefully it won't be toooo bad of a week. :) Maybe the paddle boating, tubing and waterskiing will help me burn those calories!

Increased running isn't soooooo bad :)

So today was day 1 of week 3 so increased running at a time. I was nervous but I love the way that the program increases slowly so that you can be successful and not discouraged. Today's run was challenging but it felt good to accomplish it!

Right after my run I had a lot of work to do around the house. I swept the kitchen floor, swiffered the kitchen floor, literally scrubbed both bathroom floors (gross!) cleaned both showers, skins and toilets. Washed and dried the guest sheets, our sheets, towels, bath mats. Nick and I hung about 7 or 8 pictures on the walls, moved a bookshelf, desk, chair and table downstairs to give to salvation army. And finally, vacuumed the "Murphy couch" in order for it to be ready for salvation army.(that last one took about an hour!). Anyways, I think I got my days worth of exercise today. Tomorrow I will still need to vacume the whole house and dust in preparation for girls' weekend!!! I can't wait t have Cara, Julie and Sarah over for some crazy good times!

Still trying to eat lots of veggies and fruit! Also trying to eat whole grains for breakfast and lunch....so far I'm doing pretty well, especially now that I am home again. :)

More later :)

Getting back on track...and VERY thankful for shade!

So I just got back from a WONDERFUL weekend at Bethany Beach with Caitie! I indulged a bit more than I should have there (cheesesteak, goat cheese pizza, ice cream....you know vacation beach food. So now that I am home I am getting myself back on track! I will admit it took all the will power I could muster up to go on my run this morning, which was silly because once I got myself out the door it wasn't too bad. I am also SUPER grateful for the shade that my neighborhood provides for my run. While at the beach, I had planned to run. I brought running clothes, shoes and my iPhone armband. What I didn't count on was the fact that while at the beach the weather became UNBEARABLLY HOT to the point that the weather reports said to not do excercize outside...so I didn't go. The beach also had almost NO shade to run in so I have learned to love having a lot of shade to run in at home.

Today for lunch i made a VERY yummy recipe off on the skinnytaste.com Website. It was baked chicken with dijon and lime YUM!! this recipe was great because I had almost all of the ingredients on hand and the chicken had a TON of flavor. I highly recommend this recipe, go to the site and check it out!

Also, I found a way to make oatmeal much better without adding lot of calories or sugar!!! I added apple butter and it was MUCH better. This apple butter has no sugar or fat and only 10 calories per serving! Yay!!

Thank you, Sarah Davis!

I first have to thank Sarah Davis for sending me an amazing new website!

www.skinnytaste.com

It's amazing! I have now found a YUMMY way to eat my oatmeal. It's called Avena. I will include the recipe incase others want to try it out. I have had this drink for breakfast for the past two days and I love it. Most likely you will already have the ingredients in your pantry"

Avena

-1/2 cup of oats
-2 cups water
-1 cup fat free milk (or I used Almond milk)
-1 cup ice
-3 tbsp sugar
-2 tsp ground cinammonn

Cook oats and water in a small pot for about a minute or two, stirring often until it becomes thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and let it cool a few minutes.

In a blender add milk, sugar, cinammon. Add oats and ice. Blend on high until very smooth. Chill in refrigerator or pour in a glass over ice. Enjoy!! Makes 4 cups. (1 cup per serving)

I also made the whole wheat pasta with brocoli from this site yesterday, yum! Anyways, I am looking forward to trying out more recipes from this site.

As I type this I am soooooo glad that I already went for my run because the news is on and the heat today is going to be OUT OF CONTROL! It's not even 9:30am and it's already 96 degrees in Annapolis! This morning I completed Week 2 Day 2 and it's wasn't too bad. I need to find a way to increase my pace though. I am thinking that the more that I run my pace will increase, but I will have to try and push myself more.

Good (unrelated) news!!! My dentist appointment went pretty well considering I haven't been in over 3 years. Only two small cavities to fill and I was even able to schedule my appointments for that before the school year starts so that I don't have to take off work!

Nick and I are leaving for the beach tomorrow for the weekend!!! YAY! So I will still bring my running things to do a run on saturday morning and possible Monday morning depending on what time we leave to come home. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to relaxing at the beach with Nick and Caitie and getting tan! More later! :)

Plain oatmeal...filling but tastes like cardboard...

So, today was the first day of week 2 for me in the couch potato to 5k program. I was pretty nervous because my body is pretty sore from the running (but also the water skiing from the other day) and the last run I did seemed harder so I was worried about increased running. However, I found the increased running to be easier than week 1! I think it is because there are less sets of running and walking and so it seems to go by quicker. This time, however, I did not get quite the distance that I did during week 1 because my running pace for a longer time is slower, but I am sure I can work back up to it.

Okay, so the plain organic oatmeal I had this morning (per Justin's request) was very filling...I am still not hungry and I ate it 3 and 1/2 hours ago however it tasted AWFUL! Like cardboard! I tried putting a good amount of Cinnamon in it but that seemed to do nothing. Any suggestions as to things that I can put into the oatmeal that won't make it unhealthy is greatly appreciated!

Anyways, my body is starting to feel better and get used to the running (somewhat) and I am trying to make better overall choices in my nutrition. But every once in a while I am going to indulge a little bit, because if I don't I will not last long term. Plus, you only live once, live a little :). Since coming home from NYC (last Friday) I am down about 4 lbs so that isn't too bad.

Tomorrow I am taking the day off from running but instead I get to go to the dentist for the first time in over 3 years...talk about a different kind of nervous! I will check in later :)

Ran again and now I have Justin! :D

So yesterday I ended up going over to my Mom's friend's house and actually attempted water skiing (first time in a while) I did not get up on the skis, however trying to pull my body up several times turned into quite the muscular workout!

This morning I was sore from running/water skiing (sort of) yesterday but I made myself complete one more day of week 1 in the couch potato program. I went running a little later in the morning than usual so it was MUCH hotter outside which made it a lot harder, but I pushed through. I am a little nervous because my next workout is the next step up so more time running (which is good, I'm just nervous about it being hard). I am sure that I can push through though especially now that I have JUSTIN! Justin, my good friend from JMU, is a personal trainer in NYC and has insisted that I e-mail him every day to help with my nutrition and workout routine. This has already made me make better choices, so thank you Justin! Justin sent me an article from the trainer that he works for and I thought it was a great way to think about nutrition so I will share it with all of you!

More later! :)

I'm back from New Haven and New York...and now getting back to my work out!

Okay, so after a very fun week of traveling all over New Haven and NYC I am finally home. It's so good to be at your own house and sleeping in your own bed :). So, while on the trip I tried my best to eat as healthy as possible (which can be very difficult when away and eating out all the time) but I did pretty well. I ordered salads, brown rice, whole wheat pizza dough, whole wheat bagels, whole wheat buns for my small burger and even made sure to have a fruit to take to the beach with Caitie (grapes!). In addition to these choices, I also walked A LOT. So I did atleast get some excercize while away even if it wasn't my couch potatoe to 5K program.

Now, I was good most of my trip and then the last day before coming home Nick and I went to see Harry Potter at the Uptown in DC. I did well when we ate lunch at Chipotle (Veggie burriot BOWL no tortilla) no sour cream and lots of veggies! But then the theater was my downfall....lots of popcorn and even Peanut M&Ms (and a few beer while waiting for the show). Then we went out to dinner at Alero which besides the Margaritas I ordered a Spinach quasadilla. I was FULL when we left. So....

This morning when I woke up I got my work out clothes on and I got back to my couch potatoe program. I have decided that since I took a week long break from it I would add one more day of the first weeks work out before advancing to the next weeks work out.

This morning we also went to the grocery store and so now we have lots of food to cook and fresh produe YAY! I made a low-calorie pizza on Flat out bread (whole pizza under 300 calories!) and I had some watermellon. I also just got a crock pot from my Mom so I already have dinner cooking! It's going to be Fiesta Chicken! Totally calorie count for dinner will be about 400. Pretty good and lots of veggies and beans in this one.

Anyways, I am back on track and feeling good about my motivation and my ability to suceed. Enjoying trying out new recipes (espceially ones for my new crock pot!) If anyone has any good ones let me know! :)
